Asheville's South Slope Brewery District

Asheville, North Carolina, is a city known for its arts culture, nature, and beautiful architecture.  In recent years, Asheville has earned a reputation as a must-visit destination for its culinary scene and craft breweries. Among its many attractions, the city’s South Slope neighborhood stands out as a unique blend of local history and modern craft beer culture. In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at the South Slope Asheville breweries, delve into the area’s history, and explore some of the breweries that have transformed this part of Asheville into a beer lover’s paradise.

The History of Asheville's South Slope

The South Slope is located just south of downtown Asheville, on a slope… not super creative name I know… Its past can be traced back to the early 20th century. Once a bustling industrial district, the area was dominated by warehouses, factories, and textile mills. However, during Asheville’s hibernation period following the stock market crash of 1929, the South Slope experienced a period of stagnation and disinvestment.

In recent years, revitalization efforts have breathed new life into the neighborhood, with old factories and warehouses being transformed into vibrant spaces for businesses, restaurants, and breweries. Today, the South Slope’s historic character is preserved through its architecture, while its new identity as Asheville’s “Brewery District” has brought new life into this part of town.
